Sonicson BEAGLE Music Retrieval System

  • Type of system:
    • Systems that accept speech (or natural language text) as input
  • Potential benefits:
    • Natural, expressive communication
    • Broad accessibility
  • Usability issue:
    • How can the user be induced to use the right subset of natural language?
  • Main points learned:
    • Users need quick and simple structured query examples for free text based searches
    • The example queries need to convey the point that the possible queries are different than traditional queries
  • Screenshots(click on the picture to enlarge it)

To explain the usibality issue to the user, we added some examples and variations above the search field (see screenshot).
The pictures shows weeknesses from an early version: The users ignored the possibilty of natural language queries in the example.
